Czechoslovakian military rampart

This rare defense system is unique. Technical and constructional landmark placed in Moravian - Silesian region.

The building works of the Czechoslovakian rampart had begun in 1935 along the border with Germany, from Bohumín to west. The first actual works began on a 66 line, which mostly concerns the double deck reinforced concrete strongholds (so-called heavy objects) and then the 66 line was also filled with over 1000 small forts (so-called light objects). The first Czechoslovakian fort Smolkov was built in the area of Háj ve Slezsku and was created of 5 underground connected forts.

September 30th 1938, after the recognition of Munich Agreement by the Czechoslovakian governance, the Czechoslovakian army had to leave these prepared military strongholds immediately and without a single shot. The concrete objects were properly investigated by German officers. Even the German "führer" Adolf Hitler had inspected one of the many forts  nearby Bruntál.

The Czechoslovakian rampart is still a huge reminder of the great level of our engineers, designers and builders. Base on that, there is no doubt about the determination of Czech soldiers, who wanted to protect their country from the German aggression.
